Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Thomas Kincheloe, or Dr. K, is an osteopathic physician board specialized in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). He is an Assistant Professor at Pacific Northwest University and serves as a ringside physician for many local combat sports events.

Dr. K focuses on a hands-on, patient-centered approach of Osteopathic Medicine that emphasizes identifying the root cause of pain and dysfunction rather than simply treating symptoms.

The goal is to restore function, not just relieve symptoms. By improving how the body moves and adapts, patients can experience longer-lasting results and reduced recurrence of pain.

No. While many patients seek care for pain, treatment also focuses on performance, prevention, and optimizing how the body functions in daily life and activity.

Osteopathic medicine is a system of medical education and patient care that originated in the United States in the late 1800s. Physicians trained in this system earn the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree and are fully licensed physicians, practicing in all specialties alongside M.D.s.

What makes osteopathic medicine unique is its philosophy, which emphasizes the connection between the body’s structure and function, and the body’s natural ability to heal and regulate itself.

The core principles of osteopathic medicine are:

  • Treatment is based on these principles. The physician’s role is to support the body’s ability to heal by improving function and removing barriers to recovery.
  • The body functions as a whole. All systems are interconnected and work together.
  • Structure and function are closely related. How the body is built influences how it works, and vice versa.
  • The body has self-healing and self-regulating abilities. It is constantly working to maintain balance and health.

OMT is a set of hands-on techniques used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. It can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

While there is some overlap, osteopathic manipulative treatment is physician-led and integrates medical diagnosis with hands-on treatment. This allows for a broader and more comprehensive approach to musculoskeletal conditions.

Yes. OMT is generally very safe when performed by a trained physician. Treatments are tailored to each patient’s condition and comfort level.

Most side effects are mild and temporary, similar to what you might experience after exercise or massage. These may include:

  • Mild soreness or tenderness
  • Temporary increase in symptoms
  • Fatigue or feeling “worn out”
  • Headache
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness

These symptoms typically resolve within 24–48 hours.

Serious complications are rare, but as with any medical treatment, some techniques carry more risk than others. Your physician will choose techniques appropriate for your condition and discuss any relevant risks when needed.

If you ever feel uncomfortable during treatment, you are encouraged to speak up—care is always collaborative and adjusted to your comfort level.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being evaluated or treated. Athletic wear, loose-fitting clothing, shorts, tank tops, or t-shirts are often ideal depending on the body region involved.

For example:

  • Neck/upper back concerns: tank top or loose t-shirt
  • Low back/hip concerns: athletic shorts or flexible clothing
  • Knee/ankle concerns: shorts recommended

If needed, gowns or draping will be provided to ensure comfort and privacy during treatment.

Our goal is to keep you comfortable while allowing for an effective musculoskeletal examination and hands-on treatment.

No. This is a cash-based practice. Payment is due at the time of service.

By not working within insurance constraints, we are able to:

  • Spend more time with each patient
  • Provide individualized, hands-on care
  • Focus on long-term results rather than short visits

By not partnering with insurance companies, Dr. Kincheloe is able to prioritize a patient-centered approach of health and wellness.

  • Initial Visit (60 minutes): $400
  • Follow-Up Visit (40 minutes): $325
  • Sports Medicine Evaluation (30 minutes): $200

Injection procedures and specialized services are priced separately depending on complexity.

For established patients, discounted rates may be available for ongoing or preventive care plans. These are discussed individually based on your treatment goals.

Yes. Upon request, you will receive a receipt (superbill) that you may submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.

At this time, the clinic does not accept Medicare or Medicaid and cannot see patients that use Medicare or Medicaid.

As part of an academic teaching environment, some visits may include supervised medical students. These students assist with history-taking, examination, and treatment under indirect and direct physician oversight.

All evaluation and treatment decisions are made by Dr. Kincheloe, and care is always physician-led.

Academic Teaching Visits are extended appointments that include time with both a medical student and Dr. Kincheloe.

During the first portion of the visit, the medical student will spend additional time with you gathering a detailed history and performing a musculoskeletal examination. This allows for a thorough and thoughtful evaluation.

Dr. Kincheloe will then join for the latter portion of the visit to review findings, confirm the diagnosis, and provide hands-on treatment. All aspects of care are directed and supervised by Dr. Kincheloe.
